Three Bulgarian Athletes Won Medals at the European Youth Paralympic Games in Finland

One gold, one silver, and two bronze medals won the Bulgarian Athletes at the European Youth Paralympic Games. The competition took part at Pajulahti, Finland, between June 27 – July 4th, 2022.

At the competition the Bulgarian athletes presented their excellent preparation, high spirit and will for victory. A proof of these words is the medals they won. Stoyan Ankov won First place in the 400-meters run, and won bronze in the 100 m sprint. Hakan Osman won 2nd place in the long jump and Martin Hristov get the bronze in the 400-meters run.

The participation at the championship of the Bulgarian Team was supported by AmCham Bulgaria members, including: Cargill Bulgaria, Dundee Precious Metals Bulgaria, Asarel-Medet (via Asarel Foundation), Citibank Europe, Bulgaria Branch, and EnergoService. They responded to the request coming from the Bulgarian Paralympic Federation and personally from its president Mr. Iliya Lalov.

This the second time in three years when AmCham members supported Bulgarian Paralympics. In 2019 at the World Paralympic Games in Dubai, our athletes Ruzhdi Ruzdhi and Hristiyan Stoyanov became world champions in shot put and 400-meters run. The trip and travel of the whole delegation were covered by our members.

The Annual Maintenance of Unit 5 at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant Has Been Completed

“On May 28, 2022, the planned annual maintenance of Unit 5 at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant was completed. Following inspection and approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Agency, the unit was synchronized with Bulgaria’s power grid at 9:33 AM.

During the maintenance campaign, which began on April 24, the reactor was refueled with fresh nuclear fuel, and the planned repair and maintenance activities on the equipment and systems of the unit were carried out. The planned safety measures for the long-term operation of the unit were also implemented.

Unit 6 of the nuclear power plant is operating at full power capacity,” as announced on the plant’s official website.

Participation in a charity campaign

Another successful charity campaign was conducted by the National Fund “St. Nicholas” with the assistance of many companies and individuals.

With the funds provided by the donors, summer rehabilitation camps were organized and conducted for children deprived of parental care, accommodated in social institutions, most of them with physical and mental disabilities.

SALTO Peer Review Mission Was Conducted at Kozloduy NPP

From 06 through to 15 July, a SALTO* peer review mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was held. It reviewed the activities for ensuring long-term operation (LTO) of Units 5 and 6.

The mission team implemented a thorough review of the documentation, and during working meetings with experts and managers of the nuclear power plant discussed the activities in the review areas of “Organization of ageing management and LTO activities”,“ Scope setting, plant programmes and corrective action programmes”,  “Ageing management of mechanical SSCs”, “Ageing management of electrical and I&C SSCs”, “Ageing management of civil SSCs”, and “Human resources, competence and knowledge management for LTO”.

The review team, composed of experts from the Czech Republic, Spain, Slovakia, and UAE, together with three IAEA representatives, found good performance that will be shared with the international professional community. Suggestions were made for further improvement of the activities implemented for safe long-term operation.

The Chief Executive Officer of Kozloduy NPP appreciated highly the IAEA support for the nuclear power plant pointing out that the results from this mission would contribute for enhancing the activities that ensure the safe operation of Units 5 and 6 in the extended lifetime period.

The IAEA Team Leader, Gabor Petofi, noted that Kozloduy NPP staff demonstrated professionalism, openness, and receptiveness to the suggestions for improvement, and that the measures for safe LTO were performed in a timely manner and in compliance with the IAEA safety standards.

This SALTO mission was preceded by two pre-SALTO missions – one on Unit 5, in 2016, and one on Unit 6, in 2018.
